Music and Worship
At Ashland UCC, we include music from the historic Christian tradition and from living artists, both sacred and secular. We strive to create a musical space where people are transformed by an encounter with God. Musicians leading services share in a common a mission that through our music, we are helping facilitate a spiritual encounter.
Twice a month, our choir offers music from Bach to Joan Osbourne, alongside global songs and Sacred Harp. This breadth of focus allows us to make connections across cultures and time as we sing ourselves into one community of Christ through song.
A rich variety of musicians contribute vitally to our music ministry through solos and ensembles. Vocalists, fingerpicking songwriters, classical instrumentalists, and a stellar batch of improvisatory percussionists are just a few.
Family musicians from multiple generations jam together about once a month. On Hands-On-Worship Sundays, songs, rounds and percussion include all ages and abilities.
On Tuesday nights at 7:30 pm (September through May), we offer a service of candle light and contemplative prayer in the style of Taizé. Rotating leaders offer a short reading, periods of silence and spoken prayer, and shorter songs that in their simplicity become a way of “praying without ceasing.”
For a taste of Taizé, watch one of these mini-Taizé services.
