9/14/22 – September Stewardship

Stewardship is an ethical value that embodies the responsible planning and management of resources.

I remember 5 years’ ago when, sitting on Council (not as Treaurer, but doing  budgeting/reporting), when fellow councilors said we needed to set aside $10k each year to accrue for a new roof. The roof was nearing end-of-life. There was no urgency—it was a matter of when, not if, and when might be 5 years’ out.

I had no idea how we were going to manage that in our tight budget, but somehow (God’s Grace, the Holy Spirit, ??) we did.  For 5 years we have set aside $10k each year. Realize that this is the first money to cut when the budget is getting tight (and, indeed, we have had to cut it for this year), but we have managed each of the past 5 years to set aside this money.

And so, we are about to have a new roof. We did not have a Capital Campaign or make an appeal or take a loan. We had saved up the cash. I am so proud of this church for making this happen—even when you weren’t really aware of it. Truly we have practiced good Stewardship.

With thanks to you all for your pledges—that is what paid for the roof! And an especially enormous Thank YOU to Sherri Morgan, who did all the hard work of finding the roofer, establishing the right materials, and even the best installation methodology. Sherri, you are remarkable! THANK YOU.
